DeLauro Condemns Trump Administration's New Round of Family Separation

Statement

Date: Nov. 27, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, today released the following statement after the Trump administration confirmed 135 children have been separated from their family due to its "Remain in Mexico" policy.

"Once again, the Trump administration's cruel policies have led to more separations of children from their families. Their "Remain in Mexico' policy is particularly insidious--forcing parents and guardians to choose between watching their children suffer while they attempt to seek asylum or sending them to safety in the United States. That is inhumane, and it is one more way they have perpetuated their system of government-sanctioned child abuse. Those are not our country's values. I urge President Trump to immediately reverse course and keep families together."
